Frank Deford Praises Lacrosse on NPR Radio
In his weekly piece on NPR's Morning Edition, Frank Deford spent five minutes praising lacrosse. It was a very nice thing to wake up to. The podcast version should be available in a few hours.

Commentator Frank Deford talks about the oldest sport in North America: Lacrosse. He says the sport is growing rapidly in popularity, and shedding its elitist image.

It's difficult for a sport to find a larger place in the crowded American sports calendar. Despite all the money thrown at soccer, it remains on the second tier. But while lacrosse has come under a dark cloud because of the scandal involving the Duke men's team, the sport itself -- the oldest game in North America -- is the new hot game.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but this just came across my news alert from Google. Nice column.

This is good, but it seems also to be another opportunistic jab at soccer by Deford. He absolutely hates soccer and I don't know why.
