After the tryouts, how is a team decided?

Postby Brent Burns on Tue Mar 14, 2006 10:47 am

I am just terribly curious to find out how do a coach determine the makeup of a lacrosse team after the tryouts are done. I am talking about a high school lacrosse team, not a USLIA team (I expect this topic to be tangential at some point). Long before the fall ball became popular, would the coach and his staff come to a decision to start selecting players from the offensive end first and then finish the selection on the defensive end or is it the way another around or is it done evenly?

i would think there are 2 theories here

1: which group of kids will mesh together best as a team

or

2: take the best players and put them together
[might not be ideal plan according to herb brooks cause "all star teams" rely solely on a players talent]

then also what do you do with a kid who was on the team the year before and made the team barely, but they next years tryouts more kids with more talent than him show up to play, do you keep him cause he was on the team the previous year?

when it come to hs, i know my highschool said that any senior must play on the varsity team so you may want to check on the school, conferance, and league ruling on that.

well thats my 2 cents
