GRLC Seeks Commissioner

Summary:

The Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference (www.GRLC.org), the largest lacrosse conference in the USL MDIA, voted at their Regular Fall Meeting to change their constitution and make the Commissioner position a hired position. The Commissioner is charged with running the day to day aspects of the Conference and insuring that the bylaws of the conference are executed and enforced. (Bylaws provided to serious applicants at their request) The Commissioner is expected to represent the views of the GRLC at national meetings and is expected to help grow and develop the Conference as well as the teams which make up the Conference.

Required Qualifications:

At the minimum, a Bachelors Degree and no less than 5 years experience in Sports Management. Applicants must have extensive knowledge of the USL MDIA, US Lacrosse and "Club" Lacrosse in the United States. Applicants must also obtain two letters of recommendation from current USL MDIA coaches, and display a willingness to fulfill all Commissioner Responsibilities. Applicant must be a member of US Lacrosse at the time of application and for the full term of employment. There is no Geographic requirement to this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Extensive knowledge of the GRLC and the teams which encompass the GRLC. A lacrosse background including some form of managing or coaching lacrosse.

Detailed Description:

Provide for the execution and enforcement of the bylaws of the GRLC. Represent the views of the GRLC and the teams which make up the GRLC to the USL MDIA and US Lacrosse.

• Responsible for overseeing a total GRLC budget of over $100,000.
• Required to travel to two national meetings each year (USL Convention in January and USL MDIA meeting each summer.
• Required to travel to two GRLC meetings each year (fall meeting and GRLC playoffs each April).
• Required to travel to a yet to be determined number of GRLC regular season competitions.
• Organize and lead the annual fall meeting of the GRLC.
• Manage the compiling of the GRLC regular season schedule for publication and the use of officials.
• Supervise the resolution of all Conference and tournament disputes.
• Formulate an annual budget with the cooperation of the GRLC Executive Board.
• Liaison between the GRLC and the College Officials Council (COC) Conference Assigning Authority (CAA), and the resolution of all disputes between officials and teams/the conference.
• Prepare reports and conduct routine program assessments.
• Guide the predetermined selection process for Conference Awards and Honors
• Solicit sponsorships of the GRLC and GRLC events
• Ensure that GRLC teams are educated on GRLC and USL MDIA bylaws and processes.
• Oversee the Eligibility process within the GRLC

Other Notes:

The position is a salaried position, and serious applicants may discuss the salary with the GRLC executive board. The GRLC executive board will screen applicants and interview finalists on November 1, 2005, by conference call.

The GRLC spans 11 States (South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi) and includes 10 Division A teams and 21 Division B teams.
