i thought that too, this article makes sense of many of the picks

http://blogs.insidelacrosse.com/2008/05/04/saturdays-impact-on-the-ncaa-tournament-field/

made sense of why gtown didnt get in based on how the ncaa picks

also, i think JHU is ranked way too high; umbc got hosed on 1st round opponent, they're way a better team than canisius or colgate and shouldnt be playing a 2 seed

that is a good article, and intellectually, I get it. But emotionally, I cannot see how Brown didn't get in. I'd agree that JHU is way over-ranked. Gtown doesn't (IMHO) have the argument that Brown does, especially after losing to Penn State.

G'Town / Brown

Brown definitely deserves to get in over Georgetown. They have a share of their conference title and rattled off quite a few wins to end the season. Losing to Cornell hurt them the most.

Georgetown losing to Penn State was huge. They didn't have an outright conference title with their loss to Loyola.

Regardless of their status with the tournament, Brown should be quite proud of their season. They'll have Thomas Muldoon and Jordan Burke back again next year. Maybe a stiffer schedule would help?

I think Navy getting in is kind of messed up-Army didn't deserve it but Navy getting in over both Army and Gtown? Poor Bucknell. I am still scratching my head about Denver.

Denver benefited more than any other team from the upsets on Saturday. Notre Dame beat Ohio State for a second time, moving Notre Dame into the top 5 on the RPI list.

Colgate beating Syracuse, moved the Raiders to 9th in the RPI. Brown beating Princeton moved the Bears up to 14 in the RPI.

Since Denver had wins over Notre Dame, Colgate and Brown, they moved up to 12 in the RPI without playing a game on Saturday.

G'Town dropped four spots after losing to Penn State. With a win, they're at worst 14th and probably get in. Army (17th), Bucknell (19th) and Drexell (20th), never really had a shot after the Colgate and Brown upsets.

I think what we're seeing is that we need to expand the tournament to 64 (er, 65) teams. Either that, or come up with a convoluted system of, I don't know, call them "plate games" where the top two teams are selected to play by people and computers and then the winner of that game is the champion. :D

It's what the coaches wanted. The coaches wanted to get away from a group of guys sitting in a back-room picking the field. They wanted the numbers-driven system to be put in place.

Richie Meade of Navy said it best last night, "If you didn't take care of you business during the regular season, it's your fault."
