wow. I am a bit surprised. Whittier must be a different team then they were in the fall when Chapman beat them 10-5. I really thought BYU would take care of business. But I guess this year is all about surprises.

just got back from the game,
it was very physical, seemed like byu was spending more time complaining about calls and getting hit than focusing on executing their game plan. Whittier got up big early, but then BYU jumped back into the game with 3 EMO goals. BYU slowly gained control of the game, but then tried to force the issue with bad shot selection. BYU was unable to score on settled offense against whittier.
The key to the game was Anthony Lackey. BYU had no answer to him and he simply dominated the second half of the game. It was a great game, whittier is much improved over last year.

Another big difference in the game was goaltending - Whittier's goalie had several 1 on 0 saves and came up big in OT. BYU's goalie started slow but improved. Can't help but think he was tired after playing 3 big games in 5 days, assuming he played all 3.
Agreed that #12 for Whittier was key, as was #32 for BYU. Penalties also were huge, assuming the majority of goals for both teams were probably EMO... Anyone have that stat?
Great game, not many fans. Too bad - they missed out.

According to the BYU boxscore, BYU scored 7 man-up goals and Whittier scored 4 man-up goals.

Whittier must be a different team then they were in the fall when Chapman beat them 10-5.
Whittier played that game without their entire starting defense, a starting attackman, and one of their top midfield threats. They also treated it very much like a fall scrimmage. Should be interesting to see how the game goes later in the spring at Whittier.
Either way, both Chapman and BYU are excellent teams, and in the end will both be solid tests for Whittier (as BYU proved last night).

Did they all have one arm tied behind their backs as well?
Should be a good one between the two teams in april.

Ha, I like the sarcasm. But in all seriousness, that scrimmage means absolutely nothing, and is no indicator of how each of these teams is playing right now. Both teams will be in mid season form, and Whittier will field significantly different personnel than they did in the fall.

Looks like the Cougars need to find their defense. If you score 14, 15, and 15 you should not be 1-2 in the win/loss column. That's a tough road trip to make with all the driving and 3 VERY TOUGH opponents in 5 days. This type of road trip will pay dividends for the Cougars down the road this season.
Congrats to Chapman for the big upset win. It's nice to see someone other than UCSB and SSU doing something out west.

If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.
