I gotta say this is not the same type of SB team as compared to years past. Those teams played strong defense and controlled, disciplined offense. This team seems to play a much more up-tempo style.

Goal must have been waved off or Nick made it up. Either way game is final and the rain is just starting. Sounds like the lucked out on the weather.

Just got back from the game. UCSB came out with 5 straight goals to start the game, but couldn't seem to win a faceoff. They switched to faceoff specialist Jake Kozonis. After that, UCSB was able to win a few more faceoffs. UCSB got a little lackadaisical and let up 3 quick goals. Cal Poly #7 Kweller was shut off for most of the game by Guzik or Schaible. When he did get the ball, he was quickly doubled and stripped or forced to move the ball. He had one assist. #6 Hathaway looked like Cal Poly's best pole. He played the ball very aggressively.
UCSB came out of the first half with 3 goals in a minute and a half. That pretty much sealed the victory. Muncho Almerido played another amazing game. If it weren't for him, Cal Poly might have won. He had a lot of point blank saves. The Poly goalie also made some spectacular saves. Another great game by the refs (Dugan, Almy, Apps). It is great to finally have some good reffing in SB.
On another note, Cal Poly showed up late and weren't able to get in a full warm-up. So I'm not sure how that played into their slow start.
Catlaxman pointed out that this UCSB team looks different than years past. He is right. They are spreading the ball around a lot more on offense. They have a lot of talented young players. They have 2-3 lines of middies that can all play. They also have some very talented attackmen that don't see the field. The defense is improving every game. They aren't as aggressive as they were in past years, but that will come as they mature.

Thanks Brauck for posting. And the final was 11-5. They just forgot to put the last score on the scoreboard.
