GLOVES

Postby RefZee on Fri Nov 30, 2007 10:32 am

I just wanted to make sure players were aware of the NCAA ruling on gloves with uncovered palms or fingers. These gloves are ILLEGAL for college games. This ruling was made in OCTOBER, 2007, but as far as I can ascertain it has not been widely publicized. Be forewarned, these gloves carry a non-releasble, Unsportsmanlike penalty, and will be removed from the game..

TO: Men's Lacrosse Head Coaches and Officials.
FROM: Willie Scroggs, chair
NCAA Men's Lacrosse Rules Committee.
SUBJECT: Rules committee updates and interpretations.

The NCAA Men's Lacrosse Rules Committee held a conference call recently to clarify several rulings for the 2008 season:

1. Gloves. Any glove that has the palm or fingers cut out from it (during the manufacturing process or by the player) will not be allowed in NCAA play.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and Good Luck in the upcoming Season.

What kind of leeway is there with the palms and/or fingers wearing out of the gloves from use?

The rules don't address this, but it is almost universally allowed.

Taped gloves

Postby RefZee on Fri Nov 30, 2007 5:50 pm

To add to what my distinguished colleague (LaxRef) stated, most every Ref allows palms and fingers to be taped - gloves are $pendy. They wear holes from play. The intent of this rule is to stop the complete removal (alteration) of the gloves palms and fingers. However it also states that even if the glove is MANUFACTURED without a palm , it is illegal

i have a question about gloves...

All players on a team must wear gloves of the same dominant official team color unless safety reasons require a different color glove to be worn.

is the rule that all players on the team have to have matching gloves or gloves have to match the uniform?

No, not everyone on the team has to have matching gloves. All gloves just have to match the dominate color for said team. For instance all Marquette players must have Navy Blue gloves no matter if we are wearing white, gold, or blue jerseys.
