Just wondering, switching sticks on the field during play is illegal right?

This was a point of confusion, so I asked that the following A.R. be added to the NCAA rules:

NCAA Rule 6 wrote:A.R. 25. A1 and A2 exchange crosses with each other on the field of play during (1) A live ball; (2) A dead ball. RULING: (1) Legal exchange. (2) Legal exchange.

We also have:

NCAA Rule 6 wrote:A.R. 26. During play, A1 runs to the bench to exchange his crosse, which is not broken; and this is not noticed by an official. Should the timer or scorer blow the horn twice at the next dead-ball whistle and notify officials? RULING: No. This is a legal exchange (must be at coaches area or table area).

While exchanging seems legal, what about if a player trhows his broken stick off the field and is tossed a new one from the sideline. Maybe about a foot or so away from the line? We got a penalty a few years back when this happened b/c the sticks were thrown. Any ideas?

Throwing the crosse is always illegal (IP). So don't throw it, hand it.

Ahhhh but the rule book indicates that a broken crosse is considered as "no crosse". So in that case, if you threw only the broken crosse, what would the call be since it is no longer considered a crosse?

What about this one?

During a highschool game I checked a players crosse out of his hands, and upon landing on the ground the ball remained in the pocket. Is it legal to pick up his stick and drop the ball out or pass it away?

First off... players should not pick up their broken sticks... Run off the field, and no toss is necessary.

As far as playing the ball in someone else's stick, that is not in their possession... I think this was asked before, with no clear answer... but with out using a specific team or player that I know very well. I saw this happen on Sunday, a player de-sticked another player, then tapped the head of their stick to get the ball out. In our game it was let go, and a fast break occurred. I asked about it after the game, and the official said he was not trying to hinder or hindering the player from picking up his stick, so they let it go. If he hit it 20 yards, he didn't know what he would have done.

I think that even tho this is a collegiate forum, I am starting to see the need for a High School section to discuss HS issues there.

Agreed, especially after all the interest in the MN highschool varsity lax issue.
