Title: Manager, Officials’ Education and Training
Reports to: Director of Sport Development
Status: Full time
General Description/Duties:
Responsible for oversight and implementation of all US Lacrosse initiatives pertaining to men’s and women’s officials’ training. He/she will provide guidance and leadership along with US Lacrosse staff and volunteer boards, committees and councils to create and/or improve programs to recruit, develop and retain qualified officials to support the growth of lacrosse.
All duties are performed in conjunction with Men’s Division Officials Council (MDOC) training committee, Women’s Division Officials Council (WDOC) training committee, and WDOC executive committee (National Umpires Council).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Works with Director of Sport Development, Men’s and Women’s Division Directors, PR coordinator, membership and communications department to ensure that officials training events and training information is included in all USL communications including Crosse Connection, Stripes, Flags and Whistles, and on the website.
• Coordinates and administers all annual online officials training tests and oversees results reporting and data analysis.
• Administers Level 1 and 2 Men’s Officials’ Training program
o Manages annual material revisions and timelines
o Oversees communications to all training administrators regarding program implementation, ordering, reporting, updates and curriculum
o Manages distribution process, package materials, and inventory
o Tracks revenue and expenditures, national usage
• Identifies and implements process improvements and standards in current training organization and administration to streamline training nationally.
• Assists in the development of marketing materials for officials including, but not limited to, recruitment brochures, membership materials, and web content.
• Identifies events and opportunities for nationally run officials training events for professional growth and development—implements all planning, budgets, registrations, participant selection and recruitment, marketing, securing of clinicians in conjunction with MDOC training committee, WDOC training committee and WDOC executive committee.
• Assists in development of officials’ education opportunities at US Lacrosse National Convention.
• Spearheads new initiatives for resources to support officials’ training, including researching and recommending ideas to training committees, staff, and councils.
• Oversees curriculum development by content area with an emphasis on national standardization and consistency.
• Manages training committee operations including contact lists, meeting scheduling, position descriptions, performance evaluations, committee structure (i.e. sub-committees), operating policies etc.
• Coordinates with membership and IT to best track, record and solicit officials who have participated in training opportunities.
• Generates regular statistical reports regarding officiating growth, development, impact and initiatives.
• Maintains and improves current junior officiating materials and mentoring programs.
Knowledge/Skills Required:
• Bachelor degree required, with a minimum of two years proven work experience
• Programmatic development experience
• Outstanding communication skills—written and verbal
• Background in education and curriculum development
• Demonstrates initiative and self motivation
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills
• Experience managing volunteers
• Experience with database management and analysis
• Knowledge of lacrosse/officiating lacrosse a plus
