Someone may have said this already but I didn't feel like reading ALL the responses so far but my only problem with the stick checks is that the officials aren't recording numbers of who's been checked. In one of our games we had the same guy checked 4 out of the 6 times. This seems counter productive to see that the same stick is legal that many times.
If officials took a different player every time then I'd say that I like it.

They want it done fast, and writing down numbers slows things down. I would say it's okay for the same guy to get checked twice in the same game, since otherwise once checked some people would feel like they could switch to an illegal stick. But 4 times is probably too much.

i like the idea of the new rule, but i think it slows down the game quite a bit

you are right. i saw a game yesterday and the refs took forever to do the stick checks. literally one time they got together and it took about 3 or 4 min to check the stick. i like the rule of getting the sticks legal but the refs need to do the checks at the right times without slowing down the games.

I've only done one game so far, but I don't think we slowed down the game much at all with the actual checks. We did two during timeouts and four after goals. The timeout ones didn't add a second to the game. Reporting the penalties on 3 of the 4 after-goal checks did add time, but I don't think the checks themselves did.
We talked about it a lot in our pregame and had a good plan, and we all practiced doing a check. I can do one in about 20 seconds now. I think as the season goes on, the officials will get better at this and it will have less of an impact on game pace.
In any case, don't blame the officials. We aren't the ones who brought illegal sticks into the game, who allowed players to use illegal sticks, or who asked for 6 checks per team per game. We're just doing what the coaches said they want us to do.
