Drawstring pull

Postby Sonny on Tue Jan 22, 2008 12:10 pm

One note from this past weekend's NCAA rules/COC clinic at the USL Convention in Philadelphia is the new mechanic about tugging on the strings of your stick after a goal.

If an official sees a player jerking on the strings after the goal, the goal is disallowed and the players serves one minute for USC. This applies regardless of if the official asked the player for his stick. The official could then do a random equipment check and find other equipment illegal (including the crosse).

Be forewarned..... The first few weeks of the season should be fun as this is sorted out. :)

Good point-out! That was a pretty big addition to the after-goal procedure. Note: it only applies to touching the strings, not punching the pocket or touching the head (assuming the ref hasn't called for the stick - if he has you can't do any of those things.)
Another change - ALL strings on the head now have to be cut to a 2" or less length. they feel this will help on the pull-string issue. If they're too long, the ref will instruct you to leave the field until the strings are cut.
