Down, Set call

Postby vote4pedro! on Sat Mar 11, 2006 4:24 pm

This year it was changed to just down and go. What happens when the ref calls down then set accidentally and a face-off guy jumps assuming that the next word out of the refs mouth after down is go?

One of two things - he'd lose the face-off because he moved before the whistle, (which doesn't sound anything like "set"), or the ref may decide to have a re-face to make up for his procedural error.

Page 86 of the 2006 NCAA mens lacrosse rules addresses this. If an official feels he has done something that disadvantages a player or gives an unfair advantage to a player, he should rectify the situation immediately! In this situation, I would bring both players up, explain it was my error for using an old mechanic, and reset the players giving them both an equal and fair chance to win the face-off.[/u]
