i know there are thousands of ways to form a pocket. but i am interested to see what really works....for example i have a monster mesh pocket with two shooting strings with the top one very tight for a lot of whip. i have had hard mesh pockets with the "power V" pocket and i could never get enough power out of it.....what makes a great pocket.....and how do you get a lot of power out of it??

Trial and error. It takes time to find something you like, but when you do stick with it. It is nice to have someone on your team that is good at stringing sticks that can help you, but it is also nice to learn and try some new things. There are tons of resources on the web if you just do a basic search. The one thing I will say is that when you play in bad weather you need a hard mesh. It does not matter what kind you use, but it will hold better when it gets wet.

Yeah, i think it all depends on what you want out of your pocket. easy to catch with is mesh, if you want quicker shots traditional i have heard is the best. just my two cents

As a goalie I actually use hard mesh...like I can throw a little faster with it, and it doesnt stretch quite as much when you are playing in the snow......every pocket is different though, you have to try to fit it to your playing style......Im sure your team has a stick doctor...every team does

While a self made rock-it-pocket can be quite nice, I recomend you buy a kit and look at the submissions on www.e-lacrosse.com and be your own stick guru.

And if you don't mind paying for a pocket, the Great Atlantic "Pita Pocket" is worth the highway robbery price of like 35+ bucks! It's a lot for some leathers and nylons, but it has served me well. Trows well, easy pocket maintainence, holds the ball nicely and doesn't shrink in the rain.

i don't really like the rocket pocket because i don't think the hold is as good as some other types of pockets... i also like having my pocket higher in my stick rather then a lot of people that play with hard mesh and low pockets. If you don't mind taking the time of making a pocket and working on your stick then i'd say traditional is the best if you get good at working with the pocket (kind of annoying because its time consuming).

That is what I have strung in my sticks (both pinched, old school, edges) and I like it more than any pocket I've ever had. I string it myself; though, just to keep the side leathers tight to the head and create more of a deeper channel. It has also been the most consistent pocket I have used.

i like hard mesh, broken-in of course. i have played with my stick for a year and a half and i just got my pocket perfect. no ball-rattle, and it eats up ground balls. I also double string my sidewalls just in case one breaks i dont have to restring or play with someone elses stick in a game.
