Postby davidheyburn on Tue Feb 15, 2005 6:25 pm

Do any spray paints work? what about dying it?

not sure, but the NOCSAE writing on the back has to be visible(stand out) or the helmet is considered illegal, we found that out from our old coach when we sent an email to our alumni about our new helmets

A guy that I play box with spray painted his helmet and it really looks bad, all of the paint chipped off and such...but he is really good so I guess it doesnt matter, but like I would just recomend buying a new helmet if you can afford it.

I've seen a lot of spray painted helmets where they start to chip off after a game or two. One guy on our team even used electrical tape to cover his helmet

I might suggest High-Temp paint (dunno if it works or not)
But it seems like it wouldn't chip because thats what people use on car brake calipers.

It is worth noting that around here, (Canada) hockey helmets and lax helmets are not allowed to be painted. Seems a lot of paints will actually weaken the plastic and make the helmet less safe.

Basically, you are limited to stickers and/or tape.

I've seen spray paint in some bigger stores that is designed for plastic - mught be worth a try (maybe on an older helmet that you don't care about. I hadn't heard about the Canadian issue that paint weakens the plastic. Maybe if you rub it down with backbacon first, eh?
