DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth has signed two University of Denver alumni, re-signing one of its top defensive stoppers, Tom Ethington, and agreeing to terms with dispersal draftee Matt Brown.
Ethington, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound native of Glenview, Ill., agreed to a two-year deal. He was selected 81st overall by the Mammoth in the 2002 National Lacrosse League entry draft after four seasons with the Denver Pioneers. After stints on the practice squad and seeing limited regular-season playing time, Ethington became a regular contributor to the Mammoth defensive corps in 2006. He continued to grow into his role as one of the most athletic defenseman in the game last season and earned a spot on Team USA for the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship tournament.
"Tom has committed to improving his game and helping his team since the day we drafted him," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "It is great to see that he is going to be in Colorado for years to come and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow as a player and leader."
Brown, chosen by the Mammoth at No. 14 in the 2007 dispersal draft, played the last two seasons for the Arizona Sting after compiling 137 points in 56 collegiate games for the Pioneers. The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Burnaby, British Columbia, tallied 10 goals and four assists for the Sting last season before registering three goals and five assists in three playoff games. He agreed to a one-year contract.
