Room for one more: Professional lacrosse may come to Hub

The Bruins [team stats] and the Celtics [team stats] will soon have some competition at the TD Banknorth Garden, with a deal in the works to bring in another pro franchise, arena officials confirmed.

Garden executives are closing in on an agreement to bring a professional indoor lacrosse team, arena chief John Wentzell said yesterday.

It’s part of a big expansion by Major League Lacrosse, which has new clubs launching in New York at Madison Square Garden and in Chicago.

Wentzell said a final deal is some weeks away, with ongoing discussions with an investor group looking to add Boston to MLL’s circuit.

An arena football team is also still an option, but there are no imminent prospects of any deal there, he added.

The new lacrosse team could start playing a year from now, when the next indoor lacrosse season starts.

OK, somewhat of an interesting story, but an aweful, unresearched article.

First, the headline makes it sound like professional lacrosse already isn't in Boston, a point proven wrong in the second-to-last paragraph. Second, the article says this indoor league is the MLL. Unless there has been some breaking news about the MLL starting an indoor offshoot, the reporter didn't do enough research/proofreading.

On a similar note, I hate the Herald. Damn tabloid.
