The Toronto Rock traded Colin Doyle and Darren Halls today in a transaction with the San Jose Stealth for Ryan Benesch, Kevin Fines, and Chad Thompson. San Jose also picks up a 2007 first round draft pick, while the Rock gains the 2008 and 2009 first round Entry Draft selections.

All terms of the contract deals are pending NLL approval and were not disclosed due to club policy.

Director of Lacrosse Operations for the Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club, Mike Kloepfer, highlights the unique situation.

"We feel that we have improved our team by adding three quality young players and a first round draft pick. This move was made to support the Toronto Rock in being contenders now and in the future."

Forward Ryan Benesch was the first overall selection in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. Captain for the Kitchener Waterloo Braves of the Ontario Lacrosse Association this past summer, Benesch finished the season with 81 points (42 goals, 39 assists) in 22 games, the sixth best total in the OLA. Ryan has already made an impression in the League.

A former first round draft choice (9th overall) in 2005, Chad Thompson was acquired from a trade with the Philadelphia Wings in early March of 2005 for Mike Regan and a 2006 first round draft pick. Thompson, entering his third year in the NLL, played his first six games with the Philadelphia Wings, collecting eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) and 13 loose balls before being traded and is said to be one of the young rising stars in the NLL. Last season, Chad recorded nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) and 37 loose balls in nine games.

Acquired by the Stealth as a free agent in 2005, Kevin Fines has 46 career points (26 goals, 20 assists) and 74 loose balls in 29 games. A defenseman and transition player, Kevin netted 27 points (15 goals, 12 assists) in 2006.

Forward Colin Doyle, has spent his entire NLL career for the last nine seasons playing in Toronto and the Rock wish him the very best of luck in the future. The Rock had also recently acquired defenseman Darren Halls in a trade with the Arizona Sting in late November.
