Portland, OR – The Portland LumberJax announced today that Qwest will be the team’s presenting sponsor for the 2007 and 2008 seasons as part of a two-year partnership agreement. Qwest is a leading provider of voice, video and data services across Oregon and the region. The LumberJax play as one of 13 teams in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and become the first ever sports team (any league or market) to have Qwest as its presenting sponsor.

“Qwest has been a great partner to many of our NLL franchises over the years,” said LumberJax owner Angela Batinovich. “We look forward to building a long-term partnership with them here in Portland as well.”

With over 15 sponsorship agreements in the sport industry, Qwest is the proud partner of many sport related organizations across the country. Already with title sponsorships for Qwest Field in Seattle and Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho, the Denver-based communications company has become an even greater part of the Pacific Northwest by incorporating the Portland LumberJax organization into their list of partners.

“We're pleased to be associated with an outstanding and exciting community resource like the LumberJax,” said Judy Peppler, Qwest president for Oregon. “We’re confident this arrangement will not only be good for the LumberJax and Qwest, but for Portland and the region as well.”

Qwest will also be the presenting sponsor of the popular Jax School Program where Jax transition player and Director of Community Relations, Adam Bysouth, takes his teammates to local elementary and middle schools to teach kids the importance of physical education and teamwork. Qwest has always had a strong showing in local communities with their primary focus being pre-K through 12th grade education; their employees and retirees volunteer more than one million hours per year in their community.

“The community involvement aspects of this agreement are very important to Qwest,” Peppler said. “The Jax and Qwest are both committed to helping our young people succeed in school and life.”

The Jax open their second season at home in the Rose Garden on Dec. 30, 2006 at 7 p.m. against the Buffalo Bandits. Season Tickets for the LumberJax start as low as $90.
