The Arizona Sting arrived in Glendale last Friday afternoon, after a very long off season, onto the campus of Marshall Ranch Elementary School. Nearly half of the team arrived to take part in the school visit and each of the player's excitement could be seen as they stepped out of the vans ready to begin another training camp.
The Sting paid a visit to Marshall Ranch as a part of their "Sticks for Kids" program. Head coach and general manager Bob Hamley told the room full of young students that they were donating lacrosse sticks as well as balls to the physical education department at their school to help increase the participants in the game of lacrosse. The kids were given the opportunity to ask the players and Hamley questions as well as see the equipment they will be given by the organization.
Training camp was set to begin last Saturday and the Sting players were ready to get back to work. They entered the assembly sticks in hands as they threw T-shirts to the kids. That was to be their first official lacrosse throw in Glendale.
Hamley is looking forward to this upcoming season and said they are confident as an organization that they have a very talented team.
"We are pretty excited about this season," he said. "We have our core group of players back this season and we tried to find more core players to add to our roster. We are working toward our season-opener on Jan. 5."
