San Jose Stealth Assistant General Manager Doug Locker has announced the re-signing of forward Jeff Zywicki to a one-year contract for the 2007 season. Zywicki returns for a second season in San Jose after leading the Stealth with 27 goals in his rookies season a year ago. He also tallied 21 assists on the season, totaled 48 points, and was also named to the 2006 All-Rookie Team.
The five-foot-nine, 195-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario returns to the Stealth for his second season. In his rookie season, Zywicki led the Stealth in goals (27), power play goals (nine), shots (169) and was tied for the team lead in game winning goals (one) in 16 games played. He also added 21 assists, totaled 48 points and picked up 77 ground balls in his impressive first year.
"Jeff is a key ingredient of our team and we are thrilled that he will be back in 2007," said Locker. "We are counting on Jeff to provide leadership on and off the floor."
Zywicki was drafted in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2005 Entry draft and was named to the NLL Edge Active Care All-Rookie Team last season. Zywicki was named NLL Rookie of the week three times including consecutive weeks in March (weeks ending on January 12, March 15 and March 22).
Zywicki played his college lacrosse career at the University of Massachusetts where he finished ninth in career goals (103) and ranks 15th all-time in points scored with 146. In his senior year, he was second on the team in points (53) and tied with the team lead in goals scored (44) and goals per game (2.75). Named to the ECAC First Team, his 44 goals scored and 2.75 goals per game led the ECAC and ranked fourth in the nation.
This summer Zywicki helped Team Canada to a World Field Lacrosse Championship in London, Ontario. He led Canada with five goals in the championship game against the United States as Canada captured it's first title in 28 years.
