CALGARY -- Plenty of hits, plenty of scoring and plenty of drama - the National Lacrosse League all-star game delivered all three.

John Tavares scored 45 seconds into overtime to lead the East to an 11-10 win over the West in the league's showcase game Saturday afternoon.

Tavares, the 36-year-old veteran from the Buffalo Bandits, fought off aggressive defensive coverage by East defenceman Jim Moss and worked his way to the side of the net where he bounced a shot past goaltender Gee Nash of the Colorado Mammoth.

The game drew a raucous crowd of 11,511 at the Pengrowth Saddledome, and fans were treated to a physical affair that bore little resemblance to all-star games in most other sports.

"Now that was a real game," said the West's Dan Dawson, who scored three goals in a losing cause. "You go in the dressing room, guys are icing themselves down, not your typical all-star game. Both teams wanted to win and it showed that."

Tavares' goal ended up being #2 in Sportscenter's Top Ten last night. With the few times lacrosse highlights are on the Top Ten, coupled with ESPN's coverage of the Division 1 finals and the MLL, and now with the NLL finals on NBC, it's nice to see our sport getting more mainstream coverage by the networks.

Anyone know what the ratings were for the game? I'm hoping at least 5 million.
