Titans sign three draft picks

The New York Titans continued building for their inaugural season this week, announcing that they have signed three of their 2006 Entry Draft picks to contracts. Matt Zash (Duke University), Garett Kikot (Bellarmine University) and John Orsen (Hofstra University) were all signed to one-year contracts by the Titans and will join the club at their upcoming training camp.

New York held a try-out camp last weekend and liked what they saw from the three 2006 draftees.

"Defenders Zash and Orsen impressed us with their athleticism and how well they picked up the indoor game at our try out camp," said Titans Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel Jeff Dowling. "Kikot, a left hander, has played box lacrosse in Canada since he was a young child. Garett knows the game well and he will compete for a spot up front. We look forward to see how they all handle the pace of main camp."

Matt Zash was drafted by New York out of Duke University with the 32nd overall pick. The five-foot-eleven, 190 pound Massapequa, New York native was named to the 2004 and 2005 All-ACC teams and was a 2004 USILA Honorable Mention All-American. Zash was named a 2006 preseason All-American and was a two-time captain and MVP at Duke.

Garett Kikot was drafted by the Titans out of Bellarmine University with the first pick in the third round. The six-foot-two, 215 pound native of Toronto, Ontario led the Knights with 52 points on 32 goals and 20 assists in 2006 and scooped up 25 ground balls. Kikot played for the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks in the Major Series Lacrosse in Canada and scored 12 points on three goals and nine assists this past season. He also played two playoff games for the Kodiaks and scored two goals.

John Orsen was taken in the fourth round with the 39th overall selection. The six-foot-three, 203 pound defenseman is a native of Mount Laurel, New York. The former Hofstra University standout was awarded an STX/USILA All-American Team honorable mention while at Hofstra.
