The National Lacrosse League hopes its first splash on U.S. network television this weekend will open the doors for a national game of the week next season.
Tomorrow's all-star game from Calgary will be aired by NBC through a deal in which the league purchased airtime from the network and is selling the advertising itself. It's a strategy often used by sports leagues looking for exposure and trying to prove themselves as legitimate television properties.
"We hope to enter into a relationship with them by getting a good rating," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said. "This is where we need to be at this stage of our game. We feel this sport is good enough for a game of the week. That's our goal right now."
