The New York NLL expansion franchise has announced that Jeff Dowling has been named Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel. Dowling, 38, resigned from his post as Assistant Coach and defensive specialist with the Calgary Roughnecks in May and has four years of NLL coaching experience.

Dowling joined the Roughnecks in 2004 after previously coaching in Columbus and Anaheim. In his first year with Calgary he helped the Roughnecks capture its first title in team history, just three years into the team’s existence. In three seasons with Calgary, Dowling compiled a winning record of 23 wins and 17 losses during the regular season and 3 wins and 2 losses in the playoffs. At the conclusion of the 2006 season Dowling left the Roughnecks to explore possibilities with an Eastern team.

The expansion New York franchise was formally announced by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at a news conference on July 11th. The franchise is owned by a group of prominent New York investors, led by Mr. Gary Rosenbach, founder of the Galleon Group.

Earlier, the New York club named Adam Mueller as head coach and George Daniel as Team President. New York presently holds the top overall selection in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft, which takes place in New York City at the Theater Lobby at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, September 13 at 8PM Eastern.
