Sting to Raise Banner at Friday's Home Opener
01/09/06 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) Arizona Sting
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Arizona Sting will raise the first of what is sure to be several championship banners in the rafters of the Glendale Arena prior to their home opener against the Portland Lunberjax this coming Friday. The banner will honor the Sting's West Division Championship from the 2005 season. They were the only professional sports team from the state of Arizona to play in their respective league's title game. Head Coach/General Manager Bob Hamley is proud to be a part the first team to have their accomplishments recognized with a championship banner at the Glendale Arena..
"We are very proud of our 2005 season," said Hamley "The banner is a tribute to our team and our loyal fans. The fans should look forward to a special evening at the Glendale Arena this Friday."
In addition to the thrill of seeing their team being honored with a championship banner, the first 5,000 fans attending the game will be given miniature versions of the banner being raised as a memento of the Sting's magical playoff run from last season.
The Sting opened their season over the weekend with a big 14-13 overtime win in Toronto against the powerhouse Rock team that defeated them in the Champion's Cup final last spring. Arizona currently sits atop the NLL's West Division standings.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 regular-season record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
