EDMONTON - If you held an exhibition game and nobody came, would it still be a game?
Apparently not in the National Lacrosse League. They call it an exhibition scrimmage, and that's what the Edmonton Rush will host Saturday afternoon in front of 16,839 empty seats.
The Rush will battle their expansion cousins from Portland at Rexall Place at 3 p.m. However, due to a hiccup in negotiations between the league and its players' association, fans won't be allowed to watch the first professional lacrosse "scrimmage" in Edmonton.
"I think it'd be great if there were fans in the seats and it would give them a taste of what's coming to town," said Rush player rep Kevin Howard.
