01/28/05: SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Swarm general manager Marty O’Neill announced today that the National Lacrosse League (NLL) team has signed forward Trent Smalley to a contract. In addition the Swarm announced today that it has released forward Jon Harasym.
Smalley, 22 (5/7/82), was originally signed by Minnesota as a free agent on December 10 and appeared in his first-career NLL game at Rochester on January 1 recording one loose ball and two penalty minutes before being released on January 21. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound forward notched 29 points (13-16=29) and 25 penalty minutes in 20 games with the Maple Ridge Burrards of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) in 2004. Smalley added six points (4-2=6) and 20 penalty minutes in five playoff contests.
The Richmond, British Columbia-native played with four different teams during the 2003 campaign. He ranked seventh in scoring in the British Columbia Junior Lacrosse League (BCLA) with 69 points (31-38=69) and 79 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Delta Islanders. Smalley also appeared in three WLA games with New Westminster and Coquitlam and played in two games with the Ladner Pioneers of the Senior ‘B’ League.
Smalley will wear jersey number 5 with Minnesota. As per club policy, teams of the contract were not disclosed.
