As the National Lacrosse League trading deadline approached two seasons ago, Gary Gait was asked the question.
Would his identical twin brother, Paul, consider making a comeback to help out the struggling Colorado Mammoth?
"Paul's old," Gary Gait said at the time, noting that the game had been less kind to his brother's body through the years.
Two years later, the scenario has become a reality. General manager Steve Govett persuaded Paul Gait to join the team for its final four regular-season games and playoffs.
"It was just the desire to retire with my brother," Paul Gait said. "It's a goal we've had for quite some time, and when Steve Govett presented the offer, it seemed like the right thing to do."
The Paul Gait era could get off to a booming start, considering the Mammoth (7-5) plays two last-place teams this weekend. It begins tonight at the Xcel Energy Center against the expansion Minnesota Swarm (6, Altitude), which has an East Division-worst 3-10 mark.
Colorado, which already has clinched a playoff berth and would earn at least one home playoff game if it finishes in the top two in the West, returns home Saturday night to take on West Division bottom-feeder Anaheim (3-9).
