Team fired up at Gait's return

Last week's bye proved to be the most productive in the three-year history of the Colorado Mammoth. The Mammoth (7-5) qualified for the playoffs, courtesy of San Jose's victory over Anaheim, and lured from retirement Paul Gait, the No. 3 all-time leading scorer in National Lacrosse League history and league MVP in 2002.
General manager Steve Govett telephoned every player to inform them of Gait's return.
"They're all fired up," he said. "They want to play right away. With our run for the playoffs, this gives us a shot in the arm."
Gait weighs 228 pounds, which he said is his lightest weight in the past eight years. And he's constantly firing lacrosse balls as he tools around his Albany, N.Y.-based warehouse, where he oversees deBeer Lacrosse, which includes Gait by deBeer products for men and deBeer products for women.
