Bob McMahon named Mammoth head coach

Denver, CO – Former National Lacrosse League coach of the year Bob McMahon was named head coach of the Colorado Mammoth on Wednesday. McMahon, who spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach with the Arizona Sting, becomes the fourth coach in Mammoth history.

The Sting represented the West Division in the NLL championship game twice in McMahon’s four years and lost to the Mammoth in the division final in 2006. McMahon was head coach of the Albany Attack in 2002 and 2003, compiling a 22-10 record. He was named coach of the year in 2002 after leading the Attack to a division title and appearance in the league championship game.

“Bob has enjoyed tremendous success in the NLL,” Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. “I believe he is the right man to coach this team and he has my unwavering trust and support.”

The Mammoth also announced that assistant coaches Russ Heard, Dan Pratt and Ward Sanderson will retain their roles with the team.

McMahon’s first professional coaching experience came with the Detroit Turbos, with whom he was an assistant for the 1993 and 1994 seasons. He was then head coach of the Brampton Excelsiors of the Ontario Lacrosse Association from 1997-2000, winning the Mann Cup in 1998 and being named the Major Series coach of the year in 2000. He was also an assistant coach for Team Canada’s gold medal-winning team at the 2003 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.

McMahon is a graduate of the University of Guelph in Ontario, and he lives in Orangeville, Ontario, with his wife Janet, and sons Cody (15) and Jamie (11).
