Dave Huntley hired as new Wings coach

Philadelphia Wings General Manager Lindsay Sanderson announced that Dave Huntley has been named the team’s Head Coach. Huntley becomes the sixth head coach in the Wings’ 21-year history. This is Huntley’s second tour of duty with the Wings as he served as the team’s first General Manager during the 1987-88 season.

“Dave brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Wings,” said Sanderson. “I believe his positive approach will be very successful with our young team and I am looking forward to working with him.”

“Dave and Lindsay will form one of the most powerful lacrosse brain trusts in the National Lacrosse League,” said Wings Owner and President Russ Cline. “Dave has some new ideas, which we feel complement our young team. We’re excited to welcome him to Philadelphia and are confident that he can have an immediate impact on making the Wings a winning team.”

“I’m very happy to be returning to the Wings,” said Huntley. “I’m excited about working with the best owners in the league and I feel that this franchise has the best young talent in the NLL. I know that they have the best fans and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to guide this team to bring another championship back to Philadelphia.”

Huntley brings an impressive resume on and off the field to the Wings in both the field (outdoor) and box (indoor) lacrosse games. He is a four-time coach of the Canadian National Team and was most recently an assistant coach for the squad that won the gold medial at the 2006 World Championships. He has also served as an assistant coach for the Baltimore Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (2003-2005) and helped guide the team to a championship in 2005.

On the field, Huntley was a three-time All-American and Johns Hopkins University and was a member of their 1978 and ’79 NCAA Championship Teams. The Toronto, ON native was awarded the McLaughlin Award in 1979 as the National Midfielder of the Year and is a member of John Hopkins All-Time Team. Internationally, Huntley was a member of Canada’s 1978 World Championship team and in 1999 was inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the National Lacrosse Hall Of Fame.

Huntley resides in Towson, MD with his wife Nancy. The couple has two children, a daughter, Michelle, and a son, Kevin, who scored the game-winning goal for Johns Hopkins in last week’s NCAA Lacrosse Championship game against Duke University. Huntley owns his own business, HR Investment Consultants.
