In an unprecedented move in Philadelphia professional sports, four players from the Philadelphia Wings professional indoor lacrosse team will volunteer their time on Tuesday, December 19 to deliver tickets to season ticket holders for the 2007 season. Players including Sean Greenhalgh, John Christmas, Ian Llord and Rob Van Beek will go door to door to over 50 homes across the Delaware valley to personally meet and greet fans with their season tickets. Individual and season ticket packages can be purchased by calling 215-389-WING or by visiting WingsLAX.com.
“No professional sports team in Philadelphia has ever attempted an event such as this. Our players are dedicated to the community and have taken time from their full-time jobs and personal life to reach out to their dedicated fan base,” said Frank Miceli, Chief Operating Officer of the Philadelphia Wings.
The high scoring, fast-paced sport has caught on as the “fastest growing sport in North America” according to Sports Illustrated.
At $14,000 in average salary, nearly all Philadelphia Wings players hold full-time jobs outside of practice, reaching out to the Philadelphia community and playing in games on Saturdays.
The Wings opens the 2007 season on Saturday, January 6 on the road against the Edmonton Rush and open the home portion of their 2007 campaign at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, January 13 at 7:30 p.m. against the Portland LumberJax. Highlighting the Wings 2007 season is 2006 first-round draft pick and All-Rookie Team member Sean Greenhalgh who is joined by ten-year veteran forward Jake Bergey, and team captain, defenseman Thomas Hajek.
