Chicago Shamrox unveil team uniforms

Chicago, IL – The Chicago Shamrox indoor professional lacrosse team unveiled their first-ever Home and Road uniforms today during a press conference at Harry Caray’s restaurant in downtown Chicago.

Team owner Kevin Loughery Jr. and team President Conrad “Connie” Kowal hosted the event, as Shamrox players Chris Panos and Zach Heffner modeled the Home (white) and Road (black) jerseys while being escorted by several members of the Shamrox Dance Team. The uniform unveiling also featured a special performance by members of the famous Chicago bagpipe team, the Shannon Rovers, adding a lively Irish theme to the event.

“We’ve got great looking Chicago Shamrox uniforms for our first ever season of indoor pro lacrosse in Chicago,” Kowal and Loughery Jr. stated. “Our players loved the look and we believe that fans will really like them and want to wear the Shamrox uniforms at our Home Opener at the Sears Centre on Saturday January 6th.”

Shamrox Home and Road uniforms are now on sale at www.ChicagoShamrox.com or by calling the Shamrox office at 1-877-SHAMROX. In time for Holiday shopping, Shamrox uniforms and game tickets will be available with special shipping to ensure delivery during the Holidays.

The Shamrox uniforms were designed in a creative effort between the Shamrox organization and Reebok, the official uniform and apparel company of the NLL. Shamrox Home uniforms feature a white base, and the Road uniforms feature a black base, with green shoulders and a swirl with team colors orange, black, green and grey.

The Shamrox hosted a “Black and Green” scrimmage and Open House last Sunday, Dec. 3, for fans to get a glimpse of indoor pro lacrosse action at the Sears Centre arena. The Green team defeated the Black 11 - 8 as Shamrox coaches evaluated players fighting for a spot on the final 23-man roster to be determined by Dec.14. After the scrimmage, fans got to go on the field for autographs and photos with players, the Dance Team and front office executives.

The Shamrox start indoor lacrosse play with their Home Opener on Saturday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m. against the New York Titans. The home of the Shamrox is the Sears Centre arena, a brand new state-of-the-art sports facility in suburban Hoffman Estates. The Shamrox host 8 home games, all on weekend dates.

What the hell is a "Shamrox"? That is the best name they could come up with? How about the Shakago Kewl? Just a bad name/logo/idea all around.

Love the redhead though.

It may be a variation of Shamrocks, but isn't Chicago home to a lot of German-Americans? Are there a lot of Irish-Americans living in Chicago, too?

It is most definitely a play on shamrocks, and Chicago does have a large Irish-American population, or at least a very large St. Patrick's Day parade, but really "Shamrox"? It just screams "trying too hard to be cool."

"Shamrocks" is a traditional lacrosse name (see Gait, Gary; Gait, Paul; Marechek, Tom, and the list of players who were Victoria Shamrocks goes on an on). Shamrox is just retarded "modern" spelling of a good, classic name.

Chicago Shamrox can be found at:

The naming of this new team was announced on May 11, 2006. It even lists the names that had been suggested for this team.

Considering they are the Windy City, I would have gone with something along those lines. 1500 suggestions and "Shamrox" is the winner. Ugh.

This reminds me of one of the greatest movie quotes of all time:
At the Woltz International Studios, Hagen has a few respectable words with Woltz:

Hagen: Uh, I was sent by a friend of Johnny Fontane's - his friend is my client, who'd give his undying friendship to Mr. Woltz, if Mr. Woltz would grant us a small favor...Give Johnny the part in that new war film you're starting next week.
Woltz (after laughing): And, uh, what favor would, uh, your friend, uh, grant Mr. Woltz?
Hagen: You're gonna have some union problems, my client could make them disappear. Also, one of your top stars has just moved from, uh, marijuana to heroin...
Woltz: Are you trying to muscle me?
Hagen: Absolutely not.
Woltz: Now listen to me, you smooth-talking SOB! Let me lay it on the line for you and your boss, whoever he is. Johnny Fontane will never get that movie! I don't care how many - daigo, guinea, WOP, greaseball, gumbahs come out of the woodwork!
Hagen: I'm German-Irish...
Woltz: Well, let me tell you something, my Kraut Mick friend. I'm gonna make so much trouble for you, you won't know what hit you!

Hagen: Mr. Woltz, I'm a lawyer, I have not threatened you.
Woltz: I know almost every big lawyer in New York, who da hell are you?
Hagen: I have a special practice. I handle one client. Now you have my number. I'll wait for your call. By the way, I admire your pictures very much. (Hagen shakes Woltz's hand, then leaves.)
Dagger!

What was the name of the movie you saw that? Just curious.
