Edmonton, AB - The Rush announced today it will take to the floor at Rexall Place against its provincial arch rivals the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. for a pre-season exhibition game.
The inaugural season for the Rush last year had many highlights for the team on and off the field. A particular highlight was its first victory of the year against its provincial arch rivals the Calgary Roughnecks. Unfortunately the Roughnecks were victorious in winning three of four confrontations.
“This game will give us the opportunity to showcase to fans the changes made during the off-season.” states President, Duane Vienneau “And it also will give us the opportunity to test the new players and give them the sense of intense competition between the two teams.”
Calgary Roughneck Vice-President and General Manager Kurt Silcott is well aware that both clubs will take this pre-season exhibition game to a higher level.
“Some may call it a pre-season exhibition game, but when you have Calgary facing Edmonton at any sport, you can expect the fur to fly.” states Silcott.
Before any team takes to the floor on December 8 a winner has already been determined, The Bear’s Children’s Fund. The Rush and supporting partners will donate net proceeds received through the pre-season exhibition game to the local rock radio station for its Children’s Fund.
The sole intention of The Bear Children's Fund is to serve as many causes as possible with the money available, especially to those having difficulty obtaining donations from the usual outlets.
“When deciding a charity for the game, we recognized the unique methods of fundraising used by the Bear for its Children’s Fund.” states President Duane Vienneau. “We are honoured that the Bear has partnered with us and given us the opportunity to support their Children’s Fund with a monetary contribution from our pre-season exhibition game.”
