Glendale, AZ - Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Monday that Assistant Coach Rick Wilson has been signed to a one-year contract extension. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not released.

“Rick is a big part of our organization and we’re very happy to be bringing him back for another season,” said Hamley. “He’s extremely well respected in the lacrosse community and adds a lot to our staff in terms of strategy, bench management, and motivation.”

Wilson has been a member of the Sting’s coaching staff since the team’s inaugural season of 2003-04. He was also an assistant coach with the Columbus Landsharks for one season prior to the franchise’s relocation to Arizona. A native of Fergus, ON, Wilson has achieved success in a variety of coaching roles at several levels of competitive lacrosse. In addition to coaching the Ontario Junior Lacrosse Association’s Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks and the Arthur Aces of the OLA’s Senior ‘B’ Division, Wilson led the Sir Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks of Canadian Intreruniversity Sport to a national field lacrosse championship in 2002. Rick is also a prolific minor lacrosse instructor, having mentored players from the mite to bantaam level in southern Ontario over the course of the past few years.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Arizona for another year,” said Wilson. “We’ve been close to winning a championship the past few years and hopefully everything will come together this season for us. The Sting organization has always treated me well and it’s a real privilege to be able to work with two of the best coaches in the game (Bob Hamley and Bob McMahon).”

As a player, Wilson won three President’s Cup titles (Canadian Senior ‘B’ Championship) as a member of the Fergus Thistles. He was also a member of the Ontario Lacrosse Association’s St. Catharine’s Majors and played field lacrosse for the Brock University Badgers.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Their home games are played at Jobing.Com Arena and their season runs annually from January-April. For more information, please visit www.ArizonaSting.com.
