Riptide select nine in MLL Supplemental Draft

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Tuesday, December 05, 2006 - The L.A. Riptide of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) today announced its selections in the 2007 MLL Supplemental Draft. The draft took place on Tuesday, December 5, beginning at 10:00AM PT and ending at approximately 11:20AM PT. Los Angeles had the sixth selection in nine of the draft's ten rounds. The Riptide traded their third round pick to the Rochester Rattlers.

"We are very pleased with our selections in today's draft," said L.A. Riptide General Manager G.W. Mix. "Our focus was on trying to bolster our veteran attack and acquire a few more players at midfield. Fortunately, we were able to acquire four of our top five choices at those positions in the first five rounds. Coach Tucker and the staff are extremely pleased with the level of competition we should have when we open training camp in April."

With its first pick (6th overall), Los Angeles selected midfielder Brian Crockett, who played with the Rochester Rattlers in 2006. In the second round (16th overall), Los Angeles chose midfielder Justin Redd, who played seven games with eight goals and six assist with Rochester (3 games) and Baltimore (4 games).

With no selection in the third round, the Riptide selected their next seven players including Scott Falatach, Dan Marohl, Nate Hill, Matt Casey, John Ryan Ciliberto, Jay Pfeifer and Yoshiro Hikichi.

The Riptide will open training camp on Saturday, April 28. The season begins three weeks later.
