San Francisco, CA - After a huge come-from behind victory against the Chicago Machine on Saturday, the playoff-bound San Francisco Dragons had a player honored by Major League Lacrosse for the fifth time. Kyle Dowd scored the winning shot in overtime against Chicago and today was named Cascade Rookie of the Week.
Other Dragons who have been honored by MLL are Ryan Powell (twice) and Tim Booth for Offensive Player of the Week, and Steve Holmes for Rookie of the Week.
Dowd's game-winning, overtime goal capped a dramatic comeback for the Dragons, who were down 14-7 as late as the fourth quarter.
"At the end, we were all pretty gassed," said Dowd, "but I guess I was the least gassed of everyone, so Ryan (Powell) decided to call my number and give me the ball and I was fortunate enough to find the back of the cage."
The thrilling game against Chicago will air nationally on ESPN2 tomorrow at 2:00PM PDT.
A loss Saturday by the LA Riptide advanced the Dragons to the Major League Lacrosse playoffs in just their first season of play. San Francisco will join Denver, Philadelphia and Boston at the 2006 New Balance Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles on August 25 and 27.
The 2006 New Balance Major League Lacrosse semi-final games will be held at 5:30 PM PDT and 8:00 PM PDT on Friday, August 25. The two semi-final winners will advance to the New Balance Championship Game on Sunday, August 27. The Championship Game will air live on ESPN2 at 2:00 PDT
