Baltimore, MD – The defending Major League Lacrosse (MLL) champion Baltimore Bayhawks have announced that former Boston Cannons Head Coach Scott Hiller and businessman Jeffrey Harvey have led an ownership group that has acquired the team and will serve as co-presidents of the franchise.
A two-time recipient of the league’s Coach of the Year award, Hiller was the Cannons’ coach for four seasons and guided the team to a pair of American Division titles. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Hiller was a four-time All-American selection for the Minutemen and played on the 1994 United States World Team. Hiller is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Illinois and is currently an Associate with Bollinger, Ruberry and Garvey in Chicago, Illinois. Hiller received his Bachelor’s Degree from Massachusetts along with a JD from Suffolk University.
“With the combined growth of lacrosse and the expansion of the MLL, lacrosse is beginning a new age," Hiller said. "We hope to build on what the prior ownership group has accomplished in winning two championships.”
An experienced business executive with more than 15 years of management experience, Harvey has managed the turnaround of several businesses for private equity and buyout firms. He has been involved with lacrosse at all levels and was a major contributor in starting the Massachusetts Bay Youth Lacrosse Program with current MLL Commissioner David Gross. A graduate of Boston College, Harvey was a four-year letter winner for the Eagles and went on to receive his MBA from the University of Michigan.
“We are honored to be part of the professional franchise in a place where lacrosse means so much," Harvey said. "There is great history here and an incredible passion for Maryland’s state sport.”
The Bayhawks, who captured their second Major League Lacrosse title during the 2005 season, returns for their third season at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium on the campus of Towson University. Tickets for the 2006 season are available by calling 866-99-HAWKS or by visiting www.baltimorebayhawks.com.
