So PC, yet so boring :(. Chicago Machine, come on, being PC is just getting ridiculous these days. I can't wait til a team gets named something like The Rocks or The Dirt so they don't step on anyone's toes.

I believe the Denver Post leaked the information first.

My thoughts...

Denver Outlaws -- Reminds me of the USFL from the 80's. Ho-hum. Not bad, but not necessarily good either.

Chicago Machine -- Horrible. Hate the "new" style nicknames. Sounds like Major League Soccer team or something.

LA Riptide - I actually like this one the best of the four. Ties in with So Cal and the game of lacrosse (shot ripping the nets) nicely. I normally hate the "new" style nicknames like Burn, Revolution, Stealth, etc. But this has potential.

San Fran Dragons - Are they moving Excalibur to SF? Sounds like a bad Las Vegas team nickname. What does a dragon have to do with SF or Nor Cal area? Ho-hum again. At least it's an actual object or animal.

My picks in order:
Riptide
Outlaws
Dragons
Machine

Think Chinatown and I believe you will see the connection. I imagine they will go with a chinese dragon for their logo.

Riptide and Dragon are my two faves.

From what I've read on other message boards they are using Machine to tie into either Chicago's rather colorful political history or their industrial manufacturing heritage. A little too obscure for most folks, IMO. Outlaws is kind of passe but I'll hold judgement until they come out with their unis and logo.

Oops! Forgot about link to Chinatown there. Upon further review, they probably could design something pretty cool with their logo and choice of font. Just hope it isn't too much like a Bruce Lee movie from the 70's. :)

Call the Dragons & the Outlaws a tie behind the RipTide. Machine is definitely the worst.

I coach with 'a credible MLL/NLL source' and he let me know the day of the expansion draft that the Denver team would be named the Outlaws. Then InsideLacrosse.com (I believe) had a story mentioning that the US Patent Office released vague information about 4 new patents... Denver Outlaws, Chicago Machine, San Fran Dragons, LA Rip Tide. That same day, I believe, the Denver Post reported that the Denver franchise would be named the Outlaws and team colors would be black, grey, and orange (Rochester much?).

I'm still excited to see who will be the head coaches and the team logos.

Sonny,
Here is my take:

Dragons- Asian influence. Wonder if anyone on the tema will wear #4?

Outlaws- Gold Rush, Bandits. Wait, USFL names...

Riptide- Surfing, extreme sports tie-in

Machine- My favourite! Politics and gangsters, read "Political Machine." Brilliant! Though the Montreal Machine of the WAFL was a bad fit.

Much better than say Braves, HawKs, Falcons or say Thrashers! HA!
Dagger!

I like the Dragons, always a solid nickname for a team.

Outlaws sounds like a nickname for a team that should have been placed in Texas. Sorry a little bitter.

Riptide is different but pretty cool.

Machine - reminds me of the "Mean Machine" from the Longest Yard, no thanks.
