Boston, MA – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, will allow its players to compete in the Canadian summer box league for a second consecutive season according to MLL Commissioner David Gross.
“A number of our players had requested we allow them to play last season and as an experiment we did,” said Gross. “We wanted to see what impact the additional wear and tear would have on our players before going forward in 2007.”
A number of Canadian players took advantage of MLL’s ruling last year and none happier about it than Rochester’s John Grant. Grant, who plays for the Peterborough Lakers, is trying to lead the Lakers to the Senior Canadian Box Lacrosse championship. The Lakers currently lead the Victoria Shamrocks two-one in the best-of-seven Mann Cup Finals. The Mann Cup is considered Canada's signature lacrosse event.
Other notable MLL players who competed in 2006 included Brodie Merrill and A.J. Shannon of the Rattlers and Jeff Zywicki of the Denver Outlaws.
