Chicago, IL – The Chicago Machine is proud to have Coach Ted Garber as an assistant coach for its inaugural season in 2006. "To have Ted on our staff makes us a very dangerous team from Day One," stated Machine Head Coach, Kevin Finneran. "Having coached for Major League Lacrosse before and with a successful background with high school and college teams, Garber will be a significant addition to our coaching staff. Garber is a very well respected coach and our players will benefit significantly from his knowledge and leadership in the game."

Garber's lacrosse coaching career has consisted of teams at the high school, collegiate Division I, and professional lacrosse levels. For the past 12 years, Garber has been coaching at the Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut where his overall record is 106-55. He has led the Avon Old Farms team to numerous Western New England titles and Founder's League Championships.

Garber's collegiate experience includes head coaching positions for New Hampshire and UMass—both of these teams achieving Division I tournament berths during his time as head coach. When asked about one of his favorite coaching experiences, Garber is quick to respond. "One of my favorite coaching moments was when my team played against my father's team at the NCAA playoff—New Hampshire versus UMass."

Dick Garber, father of Ted Garber, was the legendary head coach at Umass and won 300 games during his 36-year coaching career. Dick Garber became a member of the National, New England, Springfield College, and UMass Halls of Fame.

In 2000, Garber was a coach for the Major League Lacrosse Showcase Tour to help kick-off the new professional league. This year, Garber will be joining Major League Lacrosse again as he joins the coaching staff of the Chicago Machine—one of the four new expansion teams to the league. "The expansion shows a positive direction for the league," states Garber. "The league now spans the country and covers both coasts which makes it more exciting for the fans." Garber is looking forward to working with Kevin Finneran, head coach of the Machine, and is excited to be involved in the professional level of competition again.

Ted Garber and his wife Deb have three children. Their eldest son, Brooks, is a professional golfer; Brett attends UMass and plays for the varsity lacrosse team; and Brittany is involved in lacrosse as well and works in the offices of the women's lacrosse team at UMass.

The home-opener for the Chicago Machine is on June 3, 2006 at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.
