February 9, 2006 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today that Shaun May has been appointed as the Director of Public Relations, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. May will oversee the league's communications department as well as coordinate public relations activities for all 10 MLL teams.

“We are very pleased to have Shaun join Major League Lacrosse,” said Gross. “The 2006 season is an historic one in MLL history with four new teams coming aboard, and Shaun’s experience and professional background will certainly be beneficial.”

May comes to Major League Lacrosse from American University where he was the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications. He was responsible for the coordination and implementation of all departmental communications, including web development, publications, and media relations.

Prior to American May served as the Director of Public Relations for the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). At the WUSA, May created and implemented the entire league’s external relations plan. This involved coordinating the public and media relations activities of eight teams and two external public relations agencies.

May went to the WUSA after spending five years as the Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, May led all media and public relations efforts for thirty-three varsity sports and was the primary contact for Football, Men’s Lacrosse and the Penn Relay Carnival. He also served as the Athletic Department spokesperson and negotiated and implemented event broadcasts for television and radio.
