ADRENALIN, INC. DEVELOPS LOGOS FOR L.A. RIPTIDE
MAJOR LEAGUE LACROSSE (MLL) TEAM
Denver, Colo. – November 29, 2005 – Adrenalin, Inc. (www.goadrenalin.com), The Brand Expansion Team for sports organizations, today announced that the company has designed the logo for The Los Angeles Riptide, a new Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team. Adrenalin created the full logo family for The L.A. Riptide, including a primary logo, secondary logo and wordmark. The logos are being unveiled today by The Riptide, which will begin league play in the summer of 2006.
"Adrenalin provided us with ideas that covered a broad range creatively while remaining within specific directional objectives that were established at the outset,” said Todd Howk, Vice President of AEG Creative, which will operate the Riptide franchise. “We feel that the end result is a brand AEG is proud to be associated with and one we feel fans will be excited about."
“In the competitive LA market it is critical, when introducing a new sports brand, that it stands out among the area’s numerous sports franchises,” said Daniel Price, President of Adrenalin. “The Riptide brand is the result of an ideal collaboration between Adrenalin and AEG: The staff at AEG provided great direction and allowed the Adrenalin team to do what we do best - build brands.”
The Major League Lacrosse League was launched in 2001 and now features 10 teams in cities across the United States. For more information about MLL and The Los Angeles Riptide, visit www.majorleaguelacrosse.com.

I was so not expecting something like that for the logo, i was thinking more of a wave or something.

I hear you about the wave. That logo would go better if they were the Sharks or Great Whites.

You weren't a fan of the mid 80s NBC hit Riptide? That is the Screamin' Mimie my friend. Also, way to be original with name. Not like there isn't an AFL2 team in San Diego with the same nickname. Their logo:
The Screamin' Mimie does it for me. Sharks are overrated. I mean honestly.

As a matter of fact, no I never watched Riptide. Didn't even own a TV back then either. Since I didn't watch much in the way of TV shows it was no big loss.
As for an alternate logo, I think a huge wave crashing over some jagged rocks would've been better than your overused Jaws-esque theme.

Wow.. I had no idea that there was a Riptide in San Diego. I can't get over how terrible the idea for that team name (and especially logo) is. Is it that hard to come up with an original team name (at least a team that isn't currently playing)? Is it that hard to come up with a logo that has something to do with your team name? I'd really like to know whose choices these were...

Logo is definately a lot worse than the nick-name. I bet more people watch MLL lacrosse than Arena 2 football, so whocares who had the nickname first.
