Draft Held at 2005 U.S. Lacrosse Convention in Philadelphia
Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premiere professional outdoor lacrosse league, held its 2005 Supplemental Draft at the U.S. Lacrosse Convention at the Philadelphia Marriott, Philadelphia, PA. In front of a crowd at the Warrior Lacrosse Booth in the heart of Vendor Village, the New Jersey Pride selected Virginia defenseman Brett Hughes with the number one overall pick. Long Island followed by selecting Cornell’s Andrew Collins (A), with Baltimore taking Gavin Prout (M, Loyola). With the fourth selection the Philadelphia Barrage picked midfielder Billy Glading (Virginia). Rochester selected Delby Powless (A, Rutgers) with the fifth pick and Boston closed the first round by taking midfielder Paul Gillette (Maryland). Powless was the number one overall selection in the 2005 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
Midfielders comprised 41 of the 90 picks in the 2005 Supplemental Draft, while 11 goaltenders were selected. With the Supplemental Draft complete, MLL team rosters now contain 35 total players. Rosters must be reduced to 30 players by May 16, 2005.
