BYU lost 2 games. You'd can't be 2-2 and be number 1 at anything. Club teams can't have breaking news releases every team they beat a D3 team but then ask people to over look their losses. BYU and CSU lost. You can't lose games and not be punished.

the lax, I completely disagree with your analysis on dropping BYU and CSU out of the top 5. I don't think that each of them losing close games to NCAA D3 teams can be a factor in where they rank in the MCLA. The MCLA rankings represent where a given team stands relative to the other MCLA teams in their division. How they fare against a non-MCLA opponent should not be somehow interpreted as to how they will fare against an MCLA team, with a possible exception being if Team A and Team B both played a common non-MCLA opponent. But even then, I think it would be dangerous to consider those results. Someone from BYU, CSU, Michigan, or any other team that plays NCAA opponents annually can correct me if I am wrong on this, but, aside from pride and bragging rights, the game has no significance to either team (i.e. record, ranking, etc.) and you don't know if either coach involved in a game like that is treating it as they would a MCLA or NCAA opponent, or as an opportunity to work on specific things, get players game time, etc. Personally, I think that scheduling games against NCAA competition is great for the MCLA, and I would worry that encouraging these games to count towards MCLA standing would discourage teams from scheduling them. While I have no personal experience playing or coaching in an MCLA-NCAA game, that's just my take on them. I would like to hear from anyone who has played or coached in such a game though...feel free to tell me if I am completely off base on this.

Not that I agree with this statement (or anything that "the lax" says) , but if that is true, then why is UCSB at #3 after losing to BYU? Another example of "the Lax" and his convoluted logic.

People keep coming on this board and put UMD at #1 with no explanation. Is this based on their poor showing at Nationals last season? Because I have not seen anything warranting a top 5 ranking other than Zamboni's analysis early in the pre-season.

I guess I will put my top 5.

1. Chapman (tested by a good team and showed results)
2. BYU (tested by a good team and lost by 1. Beat two good teams UCSB and SFU)
3. CSU (Not tested yet, but always has a very good team)
4. UMD (If they do turn out to be good, I don't want to look stupid. We will know this weekend)
5. UCSB (Tested and lost to BYU, but easily beat Col Poly and Arizona)

We'll know a lot more about UMD after this weekend.

not a lot of love for Oregon either... they are 3-0 this year and have outscored opponents 63-8. I know these weren't the toughest teams on their schedules, but it seems like a lot of people are still looking to last year... well the Ducks don't appear to have "fallen off" so I'm curious as to why they are no longer mentioned much in the Top 5.

I'll share my top 6 from my first poll

1. CSU- lost close game to Div 3-CC
2. UCSB- 6-1, only loss to # 1 at the time
3. UMD- not really tested at this time
4. BYU- due to Chap loss
5. Chap- couldn't sned them all the way to # 1 based on 1 quality win
6. Oreg- although 3-0 by wide margins, untested to date.

I am sure things will start to shake out with expanded play bot in conference and oout of conference the next few weeks.

You've got UCSB ranked above BYU, who they lost to and Chapman ranked below BYU, who they beat. That really doesn't make sense. It's true that it's early and it will all shake out, but right now you have to give relevance to recent results.

1. Chapman: undefeated and beat the #1 ranked team
2. BYU: Was #1 and lost by 1 goal. Has a quality road win at UCSB and a home win over SFU
3. CSU: Hasn't played an MCLA team yet but took DIII Colorado College to OT.
4. UMD: Look good for now
5. UCSB: 1 loss vs. #1 and 6 good wins.

Oregon is right on the cusp along with Michigan.
