Just curious how BYU gets three first-place votes.

Yeah, that is puzzling. Oregon should have gotten all the 1st place votes. It's also puzzling to me how Sonoma is holding on to a Top 10 spot.

Regarding Sonoma St, they have lost to 3 top 5 teams... aren't they ranked behind those teams because they are expected to lose to them? They haven't been upset by anyone. Colorado, however, has. I would think their top 10 ranking should be questioned more then Sonoma's.

Have you seen Sonoma play this year? I have and, based on what I've seen, I think it is a more than fair question. They are not as strong or as deep as they have been in previous years. They struggled mightily against Santa Clara being up only 4-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter despite being totally out played up to that point. The biggest feather in their cap is keeping the BYU game close against a BYU team that I think was playing their 3rd game in 4 days (NDNU, Oregon).

I agree that Colorado has some of the same things that you can point to and many people have already pointed those out. Sonoma seems to be getting a free pass (reputation votes) here.

Congrats to Oregon! I think this is another milestone for the program, and for the PNCLL. I don't even think SFU was ranked this high back in their prime. Go Ducks, stay hungry!

Arizona dropping out of the top 10 seems a bit harsh. The fact that UCSB is still ranked 10th after losing to BYU by more goals, AND losing to Utah, who Arizona beat is ridiculous. Obviously this poll was a really tough one to decide, especially outside the top 5, but there seems like no good explanation for dropping AZ to 11th. Having AZ at 10th and UCSB at 11th, although it's only one spot's difference seems like the more just result rather than dropping AZ 5 spots for losing to the #15 team.

How does Norhteastern deserve such a big jump for beating Arizona? It was Arizona's 3rd game in 3 days. That seems like a big jump for one quality win.

i think this poll is pretty good for the most part. i do wonder why byu is getting any first place votes at all. it just seems like a no brainer to unanimously put oregon as number one. i really don't think florida state is deserving of a ranking of eight, but they keep winning. however, who couldn't win 90 percent of those games on their schedule? i haven't seen sonoma play, but from what i've heard, they certainly have lost a step and probably shouldn't be six.

A few years back, Auburn went undefeated and beat a few teams along the way, then lost in the first round at Nationals. Dont get too high on Oregon just yet. They are having a good season and have beaten top teams, but it always seems to come down to the usual suspects come Tourney time. and Michigan will lose in the 2nd Round.

No I have not seen them play this year (as much as I would like to be in California watching these games). You obviously have more knowledge about the team then I do. But all I have to go on are scores and opinions of people such as yourself while forming my own. And my only point is that based on game results alone they have not done anything too terrible. Now if they really have looked as bad as you suggest then I'm sure this will show in future games.

And I can't really argue with the reputation votes thing. Just to compare, Simon Fraser is in a pretty similar situation to Sonoma St. Loss to a top 5 team, wins against the rest. What's a voter to do?

The problem for Simon Fraser is that they really don't have a chance the rest of the year to prove whether or not they are legit because Oregon is the only ranked team they play. And for that matter, Northeastern only plays one ranked team as well. So they just have to not screw up the rest of the way.

Not comparable at all. That Auburn team had played no one. This Oregon team has played and beaten almost everyone in the Top 5.

I love all the talk about strength of schedule...

I'm def gonna be remembering all of this once the college football season starts up and I'm fighting with folks about their teams' SOS, or lackthereof.

:D

Congrats Ducks! Get some pictures, & I'd make sure your undershirts for nationals have a target on their backs...
