Who are the pollsters?

Postby bbandlax on Mon Feb 21, 2005 7:38 pm

Just a question about who will be voting for the poll this year. I am pretty sure in the past most of the voters were coaches or others closely associated with the league. Earlier this month there was a post from this forum soliciting voters for a poll. Was this for the official MDIA division A rankings. I ask because ranking our league, as we know from past experience, is very a difficult task (very few people, if any, get to see all the top 25 teams play). This poll is the basis for deciding which teams make it into the national tournament in May (selecting the 7 at large spots). I saw responses to the pollster invitation from people like "The Lax". Is there any team in the country who would want to hang their national tourney hopes on a guy like that. Maybe I should put more faith in the folks running the show (b/c they do a bang up job), but it was a bit disconcerting to think we might be grabbing folks from this forum to vote in the official poll. This is just a question and not intended as an attack on the site admins or the league officials.

I the past, Sonny has posted a list of voters and their affiliations. As a former voter, I can tell you that it is taken very seriously.

Way too seriously... I spent 2 hours earlier today researching, and discussing, and I'm starting on session #2.... I thought it was going to be easier, and I'm sure everyone else involved is putting in the work. Just because someone applies, doesn't mean that they get it. You'd probably be suprised how many coaches and officials lurk here but do not post.

By the way, your A voters are posted...

Your right Kyle, I am sure a lot of those intimately involved in league are checking out the sight. I just thought invitations to vote would be more of a formal process coming from the BOD. However the powers that be did a great job in selecting the voters. That group seems to be as qualified as any that could be put together.
