4/11/07 Division A Poll is out!
And it appears that THIS season, NU and BC could compete for the WCLL title
How so, is it because they beat:
BC: UCLA and Claremont
NU: UCSD, San Deigo State and Arizona
Currently only 1 of those team would actually make the WCLL playoffs.
How about them losing to:
BC: UCSB
NU: none
With these results I don't know if you can make a claim that they will compete for the WCLL title. There are 3 teams in the WCLL above the one team that NU beat. NU better hope that AZ plays well down the stretch because that is the only quality win they have. BC has NU, it doesn't look like there should or will be two teams out of the PCLL this year.
TMcCourt, I am sorry that you don't have a chance to prove it.... oh wait you did play at one point so you did have the chance to prove it.
How do you believe that the polls don't reflect THIS season's results.
BC and NU combine schedule is 124-132, they play teams with losing records that is why they aren't higher in the polls.
Racism is still alive they just be concealin' it

BC or Northeastern being able to compete for a WCLL Title is a pretty big stretch.
I'm not saying that they definitely couldn't, but what have they done this year, or in past years, that prove they would even have a shot.

Alright, this argument is becoming old quickly. I say so because you took it as a personal attack on you and whichever team you play for and got defensive very fast; it was meant to be a general post after reading what other posters have said. The reason I think they could compete for the WCLL title is because NU beat U of A and BC beat Claremont. BC also played a team that I consider to be the class of the WCLL (UCSB) extremely close (8-5 and it was 4-3 at halftime indicating it was never a blowout). The two teams combined for a 7-1 record against the WCLL. The other team I consider to be the class of the WCLL is Sonoma and neither BC or NU played them.
I never said they would win the WCLL. I used the word compete because if one of them played in the semi finals or finals and lost to UCSB 8-5 in a close game I would consider that competing for the title. I thought that was pretty clear.
As for when I played, we went to nationals two of the three years (the team did not exist the first year) and didn't win the championship. I am not sure what my totally different team has to do with this years rankings but thanks for tossing that completely irrelevant comment in there. If your team won the national title last year congrats to you.
Anyways, I think we have worn out the board enough on this topic. We will just have to agree to disagree.

The west coast bias on these boards is amazing. The top part of the PCLL is vastly underrated. BC and NU are two teams that traveled out to the west coast and played a total of 8 WCLL teams going 7-1. BC beat #24 Claremont 14-7 (11-3), USC 15-4 (6-7) and lost to #10 UCSB 8-5 (11-3) during their first three games of the season (The UCSB loss was UCSB's 11th game of the season by the way). They have also beaten NC St. 13-2. NU beat San Diego st. 14-6 (4-9), UCSD 14-6 (3-9), San Diego 10-9 (3-8 ) and #12 Arizona 10-4 (11-4) during 4 of their first 5 games of the season. They have also beaten NC St. 17-4. UConn did not travel this season but is sitting at 5-0 in the PCLL and will have to get through BC and NU to prove themselves.
TM, I grew up in the East so you can't accuse me of costal bias...
On BC and NU...they played 8 WCLL teams. 2 of them were ranked in the top 15, and one in the top 25. 5 of those wins were against unranked teams, so why is that any different than beating unranked teams in other parts of the country? In terms of the polls, NU was rewarded for their win at Arizona. BC had a "close loss" against UCSB, and was rewarded for it.
For all of those who think BC and NU are being treated unfairly in the polls, where do you think they belong? I'm not trying to start an argument...I'm just interested in what your opinion is.
The good news is that if a team wins its conference, it will get a chance to show just how good they really are.
Oh, and one other thing...to all of those out there who are complaining about NU getting a first place vote. Why haven't you been complaining since the first poll came out? NU has been getting 1 first place vote since the beginning of the season.

I don't think we have, no matter which poll date you choose in the polls section, you can only see the most recent poll. I believe that was the first time we received such a vote.

It was USC, not UCLA
and Claremont is already in the WCLL playoffs, no?univduke21 wrote:

I've said this before and I'll say it again...criticizing us for not scheduling quality games does not make much sense. We plan road trips before the season, and we are usually limited to only 1 (a trip from Boston to CA is much more expensive than one from Colorado to CA). we have no way of knowing how teams will do in the upcoming season. Any teams that make roadtrips to the Northeast we gladly host (see NC State, Missouri, Wake Forest)...but the higher ranked teams never come to the Northeast to play us, so our hands are tied. The records of our opponents is in no way a reflection of poor scheduling. The teams that BC played this year on their roadtrip have a combined record of 28-13. The teams we play that have losing records are either required games by the league, or they are the OOC teams that come up here to play us. I would like to hear how you would strengthen our schedule.

Wow, out of 40 voters, 13 come from the "power conferences". This could be just me, but 8 voters from a single conference seems a bit much.
Just an observation, not an attack on anyone

Cowbell - getting teams to come play you is a direct reflection of how your team is. Forever we had a hella hard time getting teams up to Eugene to play in the cold and rain. And I know being on the west coast it was still a little easier than being all the way out in Boston, but you need to make it appealing and worth a teams while. Set up a tournament like Michigan and get a whole bunch of good teams out there. Get your credibility up and teams will come. Teams are always willing to come up to Eugene now.

argue all you want but the national tournament each year shows that the RMLC and WCLL are far and away the most dominant leagues. I can't speak for the WCLL but I can for the RMLC and I would put up Utah, the 4th best team in the league, against the likes of the UMDs Northeasterns, and BCs which are the best teams in their respective leagues. As has been said before, until these other leagues start beating the TOP tier teams they haven't earned the respect.
