I think Timbalaned has a good point. You can't really start to make solid claims as to which team is better than which until you have some common opponents or multiple games played- you also can't get a grasp on something like that until they've taken down some of the competition above them.

If CU beats CSU or UCSB (probably the only two over-schools they play this season when you take BYU out of the mix), then they'll have some contention for "leap frogging." A win over a #23 team isn't going to put CU up two spots. They might be moving up later on- but for now if they go up, it's a measure of BYU going down.

Anyways, it's the WCLL's world, and the rest just live in it until someone can beat them on a consistent basis.

OWNED!

BTW-I think the whole Colorado/Texas comment was really aimed towards the LSA as whole. If things don't change soon, no one (top ranked teams) will want to schedule the LSA as there will be nothing in it for them- a win over weak team does nothing, the trip down there eat budget, and a possible loss to one could be devastating. Barring whatever happended this weekend with whatever teams, the fact stands that currently the LSA is not a character on the major scene. We're the MAAC of the MDIA world!

I'm not sure the LSA is even the MAC conference. At least the MAC seems to pull one HUGE upset each year.

However, I do think the LSA is improving after two down years. There are still a lot of games to play and I think each LSA team improves each week so who knows what might happen. I think most of the top teams in the LSA are relying on some really young talent, so there will be some significant improvement in the coming year(s).

I said CU will jump because in a span of less than a month they play: Arizona State; UCSB; Whittier; Utah; Oakland; BYU; and CSU. I agree that BYU has not had the greatest start to their season, but they are still BYU and you definitely cannot count them out yet. All of those teams are ranked/legit playoff teams, if CU gets through that unscathed or only slightly scathed they will jump. I didn't expect it to happen this poll, but they will jump up.

Oregon only has Sonoma St. as an "over game" and FSU plays just 3 ranked opponents and nobody ranked higher than them the rest of the year.

Out of what you just said, CU's only "over" games are UCSB and CSU, so I am still a little confused on why they are guaranteed to jump? And if you really want to compare, Oregon has a good missouri team, then the #26 (texas), #18 (Duluth) and #19 (Chico) all within next week.

CU also plays Missouri and beat Texas their first game this season. They will jump b/c their remaining schedule is tougher and they will win more quality games.

Colorado has already played Texas, and will play Missouri in a week. Plus how could Whittier not be an over game considering they have beaten CSU, BYU, and Michigan? Oregon really has nothing to gain, they have a whole lot at stake to lose. Colorado will jump in the next couple of polls because their schedule will allow them to, because they play great teams. Oregon and FSU didn't give themselves that advantage because they didn't play teams better than them. While FSU may say that it isn't their fault for BYU not being BYU this year, this wouldn't happen if they hadn't of scheduled one good team. If teams above you are winning you either have to beat them to move up or beat teams around them while they aren't playing good teams, niether FSU or Oregon has that ability. Colorado really is the only non top 5 team that has the ability to control their own ranking.

Games against varsity teams are usually not considered for ranking purposes.

Playing D3 teams, while it doesn't count for or against your record, it can be used as a measuring stick. You can compare how different teams did against Whittier.

It's a good test for the team playing the varsity school, but I guarantee you that the pollsters do not look at these results for a host of reasons.

To confirm Catlax's assertion.

I'm a pollster and speaking for myself only - I do not take into account results (wins/losses/score) v. NCAA schools in my poll vote.

I keep hearing that CU is going to move up based upon their scheduling tough teams. . .don't they have to beat one of those teams to move up? Looking at their schedule, they deserve to move up if they beat Whittier, CSU or UCSB. . and even a win over BYU legitimizes CU's ranking. . .

But if they get drubbed by these teams, exactly how does this schedule guarantee a "jump" for CU?
