Its a preseason poll, whose purpose is to: Attract people to collegelax.us to make sonny millions, spark civil discussion, bullitan board material, motivate teams and because it is a low time in the lacrosse world and we need something to argue about.

I think this is a great example of why voters should not disclosed how they voted publicly. Leave it to league administration to see fit voters are voting ethically, not the general public.

Was it disclosed publicly? I haven't seen the votes if it was.

In any case the public has the right to question anything they want. If a voter wishes to actually acknowledge those questions it's up to them. They certainly don't have to.

Umm....DUH KnoxVegas basically disclosed that he voted his team number 1 in the B division.

Yes, I agree we have a right as a public to argue the polls, but I don't feel we should have the right to single out individual voters, that should be up to the league, and therefore should be a league rule that voters can NOT disclose their votes to the public. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION....

The league doesn't conduct the poll. (CollegeLAX does.)

If a voter wishes to disclose his vote, that is his individual choice. I won't disclose it.

Voters should be under the scrutiny of the people that they represent. They represent the conferences and the teams and the players and the general public. I am and always will be in favor of releasing poll information. I did it last year and will again this year when the regular season polls begin. If anyone wants to see my preseason poll just ask and I will publicly disclose it. But come on guys its a freaking preseason poll.

Well of course he did, but I was under the impression that you meant that the votes were posted somewhere.

No one on the forum singled out anyone. I asked how someone could realistically vote them #1. Someone could have linked to a news story about their recruits, or if they beat Colorado State in fall ball or something to that effect. KnoxVegas decided to say that he had voted his #1 team because he felt they could be #1. He chose to say that was how he voted, and nobody else asked him to do that or 'singled him out'.

My tone may have been a bit caustic when I asked the question, but there's a big difference between saying "How did this team get a #1 vote?" and "This specific guy voted this specific way, his voting privileges should be revoked"

CJ:

I'll respectfully disagree for this reason - many of the poll voters are coaches that will have to play (or not have to play) teams upon which they vote. WHILE I CAN SEE IT BOTH WAYS, I think protecting the privacy of the voting encourages accuracy - otherwise coaches will be concerned about giving "bulliten board material" to other teams - And if you think it won't happen - note that the Ohio State FB coach did not vote in the BCS poll on the last week (thus avoiding a situation where he either voted for Michigan [knowing that Fla would probably be the opponent due to the other parts of the formula and thus giving Fla some additional inspiration] or for Fla [thus offending his conference.])

I concede that privacy can also lead to collusion or to attempts to influence results via "outlandish" voting. But at some point you have to trust someone to watch for the integrity of the poll. And for us, that person is Sonny. And in contrast to many voters, Sonny has no ax to grind - he's not a coach of any team. In fact, he's an official, pledged to maintain an even playing field when officiating. And he's noted that if there are attempts to radically change the results through skewed voting, he can, and will alert the public and take appropriate action.

Like democracy, it has its flaws and potential for abuse. But also like democracy, it's the best possible system available right now.

Rob,

I think that was well put. I also want to impress upon everyone that this poll has very little bearing on future polls. This poll is based off of limited information and lots of speculation. There will be a lot of movement within the polls. All of my top 5 teams could start the year 5 - 0, but depending on who they are playing and how they play, their order may change. #5 could become #1 and vice versa. #10 could become #3 or unranked could become #12. It can (and most likely) will change in a hurry as teams begin to develop a body of work over the year.

You could even have Eckerd, SCAD, or any SELC, WCLL, LSA, or warm-weather team start out strongly in January and February and pass up a CCLA, GRLC, UMLL, PNCLL or other cold weather team that has not played a game yet.

I would like to hear positive hype about teams in the poll. I want to know about what team is looking to make a lot of noise this year. Tell me more about UW- Eau Claire. Who else is has a good chance to really surprise some people. Calvin and Dayton seem to be the two favorites from the CCLA, but I would not be shocked if Grove City, Ferris, Grand Valley, or CMU won the conference.

I think that the GRLC could potentially be a very deep conference this year. Both Augustana and Harding are expected to do very well, but from what it sounds like, SLU and Creighton could be potentially lethal as well.

Wheaton was very young last year, so who knows how much better they will get, and WIU could do real well this year, if they get their act together. I imagine they pull a bunch of kids from the Chicago area with some experience.

I'm sure most conferences could say the same thing about many of their teams, but I think that the GRLC could be on the map to stay for a while this season

So who is going to have some big games or weekends in the next month or two to watch for. Just curious to see where some changes in the polls could happen.
